Bio

Julia Kulakova is a acclaimed Musical Theater and Jazz dancer and the expert in spinal health and abdominal fitness. As a soloist Julia has been featured in many World Music and Folkloric events throughout the U.S.A., including the Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago World Music Festivals and New York Gypsy Fest in concerts with New York Gypsy All Stars band and Gipsy Kings.

more >>Julia can be seen in the documentary "Representing Gypsies" and in NY Independent Film Fetival award-winner "Script". She toured Australia with her solo show "Gypsy Fusion", a contemporary take on Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Indian and Hungarian Gypsy dance styles.

Currently, Julia performs with Panoram Asian Dance Project, which premiered at the United Nations' World Food Day reception in 2008.

In addition to her Russian and American dance trainig, Ms. Kulakova holds BS in Psychology and Social Work and BFA in Stanislavskii Method Acting and Directing from Russia. In USA she studies with the world renown yoga expert Leslie Kaminoff ("Yoga Anatomy"), the connective tissue research pioneer Sue Hitzman ("MELT Method") and the international authority in qi gong and tai chi Dr. Yang, Jwing Ming and his direct disciple Lewis Paleias (Yang Martial Arts Association) and holds multiple fitness and holistic therapy certifications.

Julia's major up-to-date achievement, rooted in her background in arts, fitness and science, is a creation of unique dance for fitness programs New York Gypsy Dance Workout™, Silk Moves and Femme Vitale™ for spinal and abdominal health and fitness, organic beauty and harmony of body and mind.

Julia presents master classes on topics of Ethnic Dancnce, Spinal Health and Flexibility and Female health and fitness at Alvin Ailey Dance School and Lotus Music and Dance School and in Italy and Russia, as well as at the UNESCO Congress on Dance Research to a great acclaim for teaching methodology and entertaininnig format.

Ms. Kulakova resides in Manhattan and teaches her signature dance for fitness classes at the 92nd St Y, Jewish Community Center and Sarah Lawrence College. She performs as a soloist weekly and choreographs for the events of United Nations'Indian Club and NY Persian Parade .

The Observer published an article on Ms. Kulakova's dancing and teaching career; she was interviewed by Queens Public Television, Manhattan Neighbourhood Network and filmed by PBS.
